What a year for the Mustangs!

2010 Pop Warner All-American Scholars

Congratulations to all of our 2009 - 2010 Pop Warner All-American Scholars from Brick Memorial Pop Warner. The PWLS All-American Program requires a minimum 96% grade point average to apply for All-American status. After the applications have been processed, Pop Warner determines National First Team All-Americans (35 football, 35 cheer per grade), National Second Team All-Americans and National Honorable Mention Scholars.  This year we are pleased to announce that out of nearly 10,000  All-American Scholar applications submitted to National Pop Warner FIFTY THREE (53) Mustangs were named on one of the teams.

We are extremely proud of our two National First Team All Americans:  Sarah Certo and Jenna Panek!!!

What a Pop Warner year for Jenna!!  This is Jenna's second time being named to the National First Team; and she cheered on the Jr. Midget Small Advanced team that won the national championship in Disney!!!  What an accomplishment for this 7th grader!!
Jenna is participating in our Year Round program on our Midget Squad and keeping active in VMMS.  We are very proud of Jenna and her accomplishments!

Previously being named to the 2nd team and Honorable Mention, this is Sarah's first time being named to the National First Team!!  Sarah maintained a 100 GPA, cheered for the Midget Large Advanced team; and was very active in school and the community.   She is a great role model for our younger cheerleaders and she will be returning to the Mustangs as a Student Demonstrator next season.  We are proud of her accomplishments, and happy that she will be back!

28 Mustangs were named to the National Second Team All Americans; and 23 Mustangs are National Honorable Mention Scholars.  As a result of being selected as a Pop Warner All-American Scholar, these kids are all also invited to attend the 50th Annual Scholar All-American Scholar Awards Banquet, taking place on Friday, May 28 & Saturday, May 29, 2010 at the newly renovated Pennsylvania Convention Center (which adjoins the Marriott Hotel) in the heart of downtown Philadelphia.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE 30 MUSTANGS NAMED NATIONAL SECOND TEAM ALL AMERICANS!
WE ARE VERY PROUD OF YOU!!!

(From Pop Warner Website)

Question: How big of a deal is it to be named as a Pop Warner All-American Scholar?

Answer: An extremely big deal! If your son/daughter is recognized as a Pop Warner All-American Scholar, then he/she is amongst the top 1% of all Pop Warner participants. They are also eligible to attend our Awards Recognition Program held annually which commemorates their achievements on the field, in the classroom and in the community.

Question: What is the difference between First Team, Second Team, and Honorable Mention All-American?

Answer: A First Team All-American is one of the top 35 football players or top 35 cheerleaders for his/her grade nationwide. A Second Team All-American consists of those scholars who are above an annually increasing final score (GPA + addendum), ranging last year from about 101 -108. An Honorable Mention Scholar in 2008 had a final score between 96-101.

Question: Who is eligible to attend the Scholar Awards Banquet in May?

Answer: Every Scholar is invited to attend, whether they are First Team, Second Team or Honorable Mention. We hold this event annually to recognize all of our incredible scholars and to honor leaders in the sports community.

POP WARNER ALL-AMERICAN SCHOLAR PROGRAM:

Each year, the most academically accomplished Pop Warner kids compete for Academic All-American status. This process begins at the association level and up through each of the eight Pop Warner regions to the national level. In 2008, approximately 400,000 kids participated in Pop Warner. As our numbers once again reached record levels, 276 First Team members, over 5,000 Second Team members and 1,000+ Honorable Mention scholars were named as Academic All-Americans at the National Level for 2007-2008.
The PWLS All-American Program requires a minimum 96% grade point average to apply for All-American status. After the applications have been processed, Pop Warner determines National First Team All-Americans (35 football, 25 cheer per grade), National Second Team All-Americans and National Honorable Mention Scholars.

ALL-AMERICAN SELECTION PROCESS:

  • A final score is calculated for each student that consists of up to 100 points (85%) for the student's grades for the prior school year, along with up to 18 points (15%) awarded for the attached Addendum sheet of activities and achievements.

  • Once the scores have been calculated, First Team All-Americans are selected. The top 35 football players and 25 cheerleaders per grade (plus ties) are selected as National First Team All-Americans.

  • Second Team All-Americans are then determined by Pop Warner based upon the number of applications that were submitted for that year. Last year's total was approximately 3,800 Second Team All-Americans

Who is Eligible for Consideration?

Students are eligible for All-American consideration if he/she is

  • Is currently on the 5th grade or higher
  • Has a 96% grade point average or better
  • Has a complete prior year's report card
